Community Conversation on ‘Renewable Energy’: Monday 2nd March 2026, 6pm in the Village Hall
The NDP Steering Group is preparing policies that best reflect the wishes and future needs of residents as voiced in surveys, consultations and questionnaires conducted over the past four years. One such policy concerns the generation and storage of green energy. At the May 2023 Consultation Event, substantial support was shown by residents for solar panel and /or wind turbine installations that would benefit local people in some way. Public Consultation Date Confirmed- 19th & 20th May
To ensure you are up to date on the progress made so far and give you an opportunity to comment there will be a two-day drop-in public consultation event in the Village Hall on Friday 19th May and Saturday 20th May from 11 am to 9 pm. Various displays will summarise results from last year's opinion survey, provide up-to-date statistics about housing, population trends, notable village features and more. We’ve been very busy … we plan to share progress at an open meeting in the Spring
Based on the feedback from the opinion survey last year, the Steering Group been busy identifying/researching objectives & policies for inclusion in the NDP. Areas of investigation include future housing requirements and building for local needs, protecting the architectural character and distinctiveness of the village, identifying and protecting 'Important Village Views' 'Local Green Spaces' and 'Important Landscape Views', supporting future improvements to facilities such as the Pre-school, Village Hall and playing field, supporting farmers to use their land for food production and to care for wildlife and the surrounding landscape, supporting business and the local economy; creating a more ...
What’s happened to the Opinion Survey feedback?
Opinions gathered in the spring are now guiding development of policies that will form a key part of the final NDP document. These policies will reflect specific concerns raised by residents in the survey which related to planning matters. Ultimately, they will inform planning decisions made by the Borough Council whenever they affect Great Massingham. Opinion Survey Spring 2022 – what did you tell us?
Results from the spring 2022 survey are now available via the link on the Surveys & Consultations page of this website. Feedback was wide-ranging and some of the highlights are summarised below though see the full report for more detail. What residents value most in the village are the range and quality of retail services (mentioned by 78% of the sample) followed by a recognition of a strong community spirit (56%), the Village Hall/social club and activities there (52%), the surgery and pharmacy (52%), the village greens and ponds (40%) and the attractive village centre (37%). Opinion Survey is now closed – thank you for taking part
Just over 270 completed surveys have been received - a healthy response and we thank everyone who took part. With 4 questions per survey and up to 5 replies for each we now need to organise and evaluate up to 5,400 individual items of information. The paper based and online returns are currently being combined and a digital spreadsheet approach taken to the analysis. When complete, a summary of the findings will be published on this website and elsewhere before being used to identify core themes and help draft policies for inclusion in the Neighbourhood Development Plan. ...

We have now received 120 completed surveys. Thank you to all who have responded. With around 502 households in the village, this equates to a 24% response. 3 out of 4 of households have not yet given their opinions.
